Eastern Shore of Virginia Public Library Foundation

Welcome! The Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation serves the public libraries of Accomack and Northampton Counties by raising funds for programs, new materials, preservation of heritage collections, library amenities and capital projects.

Our 2025 Annual Appeal

This year, our annual appeal will help the Eastern Shore Regional Library System with one of its least glamorous but most important behind-the-scenes functions.  That’s moving things – books, DVDs and audio books, office supplies, tents and tables, art supplies, exhibits, signs and more – up and down the Eastern Shore in its faithful van.  You may have seen the library van, plying its way up and down Route 13 on its twice-weekly trips to all four libraries or at special events like Summerfest.

The van is aging out and doesn’t meet the evolving needs of our library system. So, the Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation is stepping up to raise $25,000 toward the estimated $70,000 purchase price.

Will you help us keep the Eastern Shore’s public libraries safely on the road?  A gift of any amount is welcome!

Recognizing Our Donors

The work of the Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation would not be possible without the generosity of many donors.  Their contributions take many forms. Recently, we decided to share some of their stories with you.  We’ll add more donor stories periodically.

DID YOU KNOW HOW SPECIAL A BRICK CAN BE?

The brick walk at the Eastern Shore Regional Library and Heritage Center in Parksley is a great way to express thanks and affection for the people in your life who love our libraries and care about their future. It’s also a place where you can celebrate the achievements of young readers.

The Foundation sells three kinds of bricks installed in separate, marked sections of the walk:

Tribute: These bricks honor library supporters and loved ones both past and present.

Library Lover: You can share your warm and fuzzy feelings for special library lovers with a brick trimmed with a heart at each corner. You can even immortalize your dog who chewed up a library book!

Reading Star: Enthusiastic young readers get a special reward when you donate a brick to our “Reading Stars Galaxy Walk of Fame.” These bricks are decorated with stars on each corner.

Click on the button below to order a Brick online, using your credit card or checking account!

Libraries are as Relevant Today as Ever

Laura Bush's quote is as true in the current digital age as it has ever been, as libraries become both virtual and physical spaces.  Free public libraries are basic to a true democracy because they provide everyone with equal access to information and place no limits on the ideas we can explore.

I have found the most valuable thing in my wallet is my library card.
— Former First Lady Laura Bush

We can find almost anything on the Internet, but not everyone has access to the Internet at home, especially on the Eastern Shore.  Making online access available to everyone is essential to providing equal opportunity to all our citizens.
