Where your money goes
The Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation runs a lean office with a part-time office manager and volunteer labor from our officers. At present, during fundraising activities, we take ten cents from every dollar to pay for the costs associated with each campaign. These costs typically include design and print costs for letters, postcards and banners; mail handling and postage (a cost that is growing larger each year); any paid advertising we do, and office labor costs.
This is a very low overhead figure, and it is possible because of careful management of our cash reserves for other operating costs. These expenses include software such as ConstantContactÔ, a program that allows us to communicate with all our past and present donors via email, and other database programs. The Sustaining Donors Program also helps us cover operating costs.
Donations to our endowments are not charged any overhead by the Foundation.

Why join the Sustaining Donor Program of the Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation? Sustainers provide much needed support for the daily operations of the Foundation as we work to help our libraries thrive and grow. Sustaining donors give monthly to the Foundation via credit card or bank transfer. We operate a lean organization; still, fundraising takes a certain amount of ready cash!

An important note, the Foundation is a tax-exempt charity. Your donations can be deducted from your income taxes to the full extent allowed by law. We do not provide goods or services in exchange for your donations. A financial statement for the Eastern Shore Public Library Foundation is available from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services upon request.
